SiKi‧Sufen is an artist from Dulan, an indigenous village home to the Amis aborigine on Taiwan's eastern coastline. Many in his father's generation were enlisted by the Chinese Nationalists when the troops arrived in 1949. They fought in the civil war against the Communists. Some of these soldiers became casualties of war, while others became the consequence of history, as the veterans were kept from returning home at the end of war. Some of this lost generation of indigenous Taiwanese still lives in China today.
Some of managed to come back. Through this search of Taiwanese aborigine veterans, we see not only the absurdity of nationalism or the ridiculousness of wars - taking the innocent away from their homes and onto battlefields - we also learn much more.
